This one day instructor led course introduces participants to the principles of timetabling and analyses typical curriculum models used in schools. No experience in timetabling is assumed.
Note: This course is designed as a theory based course incorporating discussion and a hands on activity. No computers or software are used in this course.

Introduces participants to the principles of timetabling and analyses typical curriculum models used in schools. No experience in timetabling is assumed. This course is designed as a theory based course incorporating discussion and a hands-on activity.

This one day instructor led course introduces participants to the principles of timetabling and analyses typical curriculum models used in schools.

Participants will develop their knowledge base and enhance their skills of describing and analysing a school’s curriculum for the eventual purpose of developing and managing a successful school timetable. While no computers or software are used in the course, it covers the essential skills and knowledge required for the Overview Course. However, it is not a pre-requisite for the Overview Course.

Audience

This course is designed for those new to timetabling in schools or those who wish to take a more active and informed role in the timetabling process:

  • Learn how modern timetabling theory can be applied to your curriculum
  • Learn the data structures involved in timetabling
  • Learn Timetabling Concepts and terminology
  • Learn techniques to better assess and analyse a school’s needs
  • Learn different Curriculum models

At Course Completion

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline their curriculum using modern timetabling concepts
  • Describe the process of Timetable construction in their School
  • Understand the various approaches to Blocking, Lines and Grids
  • Understand the principles and processes involved in Timetable construction
  • Comprehensively assess the wants and needs of the whole school community

Prerequisites

This course assumes that participants have these skills:

  • Basic understanding of their school's curriculum

Course Materials

Participants are provided with a workbook manual which steps them through all processes used in this course.

The course is appropriate for:

Principals, Deputies, Business Managers, Directors of Study, Curriculum Coordinators, Leading Teachers, Self Taught Timetablers and Future Timetablers.
