Advanced Timetable Development
|
This one day instructor led course is designed for those who are experienced in using The Timetabler Version 7TE or have completed the Timetable Development Overview Course. Topics covered are decided on the day by the participants and will be selected from: How to timetable the different curriculum models:- Vertical, Horizontal, Fully Blocked, Partially Blocked and Multi-Level Blocking, Use of a blocking schedule for solving difficult timetables, Use of TEST, AUTO and Banding, Multi-Campus Schools, How to create student timetables for the different curriculums and banding, Yard Duty and Rooming, Automatic staffing of yard duty.
Audience
This course is designed for those who are experienced in using the Timetabler Version 7TE or have completed the Timetable Development Overview Course.
At Course Completion
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create a timetable for a range of different curricula
- Use a number of techniques to analyse and resolve problems during construction
- Incorporate rooming with flexibility in the timetable
- Automatically room a timetable around all your rooming constraints
- Automatically staff a timetable around faculties
- Use advanced timetabling tricks to assist with construction
- Use banding to create a timetable within the timetable
- Use a blocking pattern to assist in timetabling a significant number of blocks or lines
- Generate student timetables for a range of curricula
- Create a timetable for a multi-campus school
Prerequisites
This course assumes that you have these skills:
- Perform simple file access tasks, such as browsing a directory structure, opening and saving files, and creating folders
- Describe the process of timetable construction in your school
- Understand the concept of blocking, lines or grids
- Understand the concept of a roll class
- Import a grid into the timetable
- Enter your curriculum structure in the Timetabler Version 7TE
- Use a range of tests to determine whether a timetable is possible
- Use a range of tools designed to aid and speed up the construction process
- Create a block or MRCG
- Create a room usage record or RUR
- Please Note: The above skills are covered in the Timetable Development Overview Course. It is therefore assumed that participants in this Advanced Course have acquired the skills covered in the Timetable Development Overview Course and have had an appropriate time to practice these skills.
Course Materials
You will be provided with a lesson manual which describes and documents all processes used in this course. Sample data will be provided.
Course Outline
Participants at this session will decide on the day what the final agenda will be. A range of topics will be selected from individual issues emailed to Timetabling Solutions before the course, issues raised on the day and the following:
- Clarification and extension of topics covered in the overview course of the Timetable Development Course
- How to best use the new features and enhancements in recent updates
Analysis of problems encountered in the timetabling process and how to solve them
- Using a blocking pattern to aid the construction process for difficult timetables
- Use a rooming tool to aid and simplify the difficult timetable construction
- Timetabling principles, and flexibility
- Create a multi-campus timetable
- Different methods to create and print student timetables
- Time to analyse your timetable data
- Create a yard duty roster to fit with your current timetable
- Use of timetabling tricks, e.g., how to ensure staff have one free period per day.
- Send timetable files to a network location so staff can print their own timetables or class lists.
