Advanced Student Options

 

This one day instructor led course is designed for experienced users of The Timetabler or those who have completed the Students Options Overview course.  Topics covered are decided on the day by the participants and will be selected from:  Student Options Multi-User Sets, Manual and Automatic Development of Grid, Use of Tight, Tightest, Conflict, Tagging, Divide, Lock and Same, Control student allocations to classes using curriculum constraints, Develop sub-grids for semesterisation, Manage options with different unit weightings, Develop Exam Grid, Update student details and preferences using the import facility, Develop the grid for a totally vertical curriculum.

 

Audience

This course is designed for experienced users of The Timetabler or those who have completed the Students Options Overview course.

 

At Course Completion

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Manually and automatically create a number of different grids using different curriculum models
  • Create a semesterised grid and control subject allocations
  • Create a grid that allows students to accelerate
  • Control student allocations to classes
  • Create an exam grid for a sub-grid
  • Create two exams for one subject
  • Use a range of tools to organise students into particular groups
  • Create a grid with different subject weightings
  • Update student details from your administration system

Prerequisites

This course assumes that you have these skills:

  • Perform simple file access tasks, such as browsing a directory structure, opening and saving files, and creating folders
  • Set up a structure for a grid
  • Create a number of different grids using different curriculum models
  • Interrogate student subject choices to verify validity
  • Print results

Course Materials

You will be provided with a lesson manual which will describe and document all processes used in the lessons presented in this course.  Sample data will be provided and data from real schools will be used in a range of “hands on” tasks. 

 

Course Outline

Participants at this session will decide on the day what the final agenda will be.  A range of topics will be selected from individual issues emailed to Timetabling Solutions before the course, issues raised on the day and the following: 

  • Clarification and extension of topics covered in the Student Options course
  • How to best use the new features and enhancements in recent updates 
  • How to set up The Timetabler to handle a range of different users accessing the same database, e.g., Year 12
  • Tools to aid manual grid line or block construction
  • Set up semesterised grid lines to handle a change of courses
  • Control the allocation of students to classes using a range of techniques
  • Time to analyse your data
  • Create an exam grid
  • Import new students or changes to current students’ details
